Des Braves Project
A modern update that respects the home’s character
A refined transformation of a classic kitchen, designed to honor the home’s history.
Restore the vitality of a home with outstanding character
The clients were looking for a kitchen that blends seamlessly with the home’s historic architecture, as if it had always been there.
The goal was to create a bright, inviting, and functional kitchen that honors the home’s classic character while delivering the comfort of a modern family space.
For them, materials were not up for compromise. They had to be noble, genuine, and built to last. This is reflected in the use of natural marble, rich wood, and bespoke details.
Marie-Ève Gendreau’s vision was built around a clear principle: reveal the home’s authenticity by working with its inherent strengths.
Open up the space and restore the home’s proportions
The original kitchen was far too small for the scale of the home, closed off, dark, and lacking storage. From the outset, it was clear the space had to be opened, walls removed, and the layout fully reconsidered.
But opening up the space came with significant structural challenges. Close collaboration with contractors was required to ensure the work respected the home’s constraints while allowing for a cohesive and luminous space.
A second major challenge was natural light. The original small windows and the imposing oven block fragmented the space. The addition of a large window became a cornerstone of the design, flooding the kitchen with light and transforming it into a welcoming space for family life.
